Microsoft is working on a Chromecast like dongle for Windows Phone user, according to documents filed with the FCC. The Miracast dongle under the model number Microsoft HD-10 has been seen at FCC and WiFi Org too.
Windows Phone users will be able to mirror their phone screen to the TV with the help of this dongle. Documents in the filing indicate that Microsoft’s upcoming device will feature Wi-Fi, HDMI compatibility, and a USB port. For those unaware, Miracast is a screencasting standard for connected devices over Wi-Fi Direct. Microsoft recently added Miracast support toLumia handsets like the 930 and the 1520 via the Cyan firmware for Windows Phone 8.1.
However, GigaOM is stating that the Microsoft Miracast dongle will be different than the Google Chromecast as the former will simply mirror the display while the latter pulls streaming data from the cloud. There is no word on pricing and availability of the dongle. Microsoft has a Lumia event scheduled on September 4th where it can announce the Miracast dongle.
