Xiaomi unveiled the MIUI 6, a major update with new features and a completely new design. The MIUI 6 update is now available for the both the Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi 3 smartphones for the public after the internal best testing is complete. The MIUI v4.8.29 update with MIUI 6 update for these two devices bring new notification center with toggles for music control panel, notifications for new messages, missed calls, reminders, app notices, and more.
In addition to the MIUI 6 update, this update fixes a security hole that users didn’t need to confirm the old password while setting a new password, Support AirPlay wireless speaker, new Ignore data usage option to make data statistics more accurate and some bug fixes.
The MIUI 6 (v4.8.29) update is now available Over-the-air (OTA) for the Mi 3 and Mi 4 and is 417MB in size. Developer’s ROM needs to be installed to get the OTA, but you can flash the MIUI6 Developer ROM with MIUI 6 manually from here. Since it is the developer version, it might have some bugs.
For those who are not using these two smartphone, there is a MIUI Express or Lite launcher 2.2.0 with the new MIUI 6 theme. You can download the new MIUI Lite MIUI 6 Version here (Requires registration to download the APK).
Xiaomi has already promised that the MIUI 6 update would be available for the Xiaomi Mi 2,2S,2A, Redmi devices and Redmi Note later this year.
