Android Silver Program reportedly delayed

Reports about Google’s Android Silver program were looming the net for quite some time. Now, The Information is reporting that the Android Silver program is being put on hold mainly due to the departure of Google’s former Chief Business Officer Nikesh Arora.

Apparently, Arora was in charge of the Android Silver program and worked as Google’s sales chief and also oversaw the company’s partnerships with handset makers and wireless carriers.  The report further said that the program has received “mixed reactions” from potential partners. Rumors about Android Silver suggested Google would partner with companies like HTC, LG and others, prioritizing Silver-branded handsets in updates and at retail, so support from these companies was crucial.

Moreover, some employees inside Google expressed “serious doubts” that Android Silver could be successful, even if the plan had gone on as expected. Just a quick reminder, Android Silver is a Google’s plan to replace the current Nexus series with high end Android Silver phones. In May, a report stated that Android Silver devices will replace the Nexus line by February next year. They were touted to have features like waterproofing and improved voice recognition.

The Information report further stated that the delay in Android Silver program is also as Google is focusing more on the recently launched Android One program.
