BlackBerry Blend cross platform data sharing app announced

BlackBerry announced the high end smartphone Passport with square display yesterday. Along with the phone, the company also launched BlackBerry Blend, a new app the allows you to display content from your BlackBerry, such as conversations, calendars, files, contacts and more, on other screens such as computers and tablets.

BB Blend

The app delivers all your BBM and SMS messages from your phone into a hub available from your computer or tablet. In addition, it will add the ability to to save files to your smartphone directly from a different device. The new feature, which is a part of the new BB 10.3 OS, will be available for BlackBerry Passport and Porsche Design P’9983 this week.

“With the amount of time spent shuffling between devices throughout the day, the type of integration that BlackBerry Blend offers will bring a whole new level of productivity to our users. Whether you need to access important work files on the road or respond to text and email messages on your tablet while commuting to work, BlackBerry Blend ensures all of your important information is safely accessible, regardless of the device you are using.”

said John Chen, Executive Chairman and CEO at BlackBerry.

One of the main aims of the app is to alert a user about a SMS, email etc without looking at the phone. For security, closing Blend instantly removes everything from the linked laptop.  It will work with Mac OS X 10.7 +, iPad tablets running iOS 7+, Windows 7+ and Android tablets running Android 4.4. Moreover, the app also works if the device is plugged into a computer via a USB cable.

BlackBerry Blend for Macs and PCs is available on the company’s website, while apps for Android tablets and iPads are in the Google Play store and Apple App Store, respectively.
