Facebook is working on an anonymous social app for chatting, according to a latest report from The New York Times. The mobile app will enable users to interact and share content with others anonymously, said the report.
From the description of the app, it looks like it could be similar to popular apps like Secret and Whisper that also allow use to chat without revealing your actual identity. The app will launch in the coming weeks and allow people to use pseudonyms so they can have discussions about topics “which they may not be comfortable connecting to their real names”, said the report.
At present, it is not clear if the app will focus only on messaging or will it connect to the main Facebook app. The report added that the social network has been working on the app for over a year. Yesterday, Facebook completed its WhatsApp acquisition for $22 billion. The company recently launched a Snapchat like app – Slingshot that has failed to pick up. Also, Facebook made its Messenger app standalone and disabled the feature from its main app.
