Microsoft releases ‘Analog’ keyboard for Android Wear

Microsoft has launched a keyboard for Android Wear that lets you draw letters on smartwatches. Dubbed as ‘Analog’ keyboard, Microsoft has released the prototype of the keyboard that can be downloaded on company’s website.

The keyboard supports square screens with a 320 x 320 resolution and the Moto 360. It allows users to draw letters, numbers and emojis instead of typing the characters which is seen in most keyboards. When you are drawing on the keyboard, the cursor on the top of the screen prints out what you have just written.

“As touch screens are getting smaller, soft keyboards are getting harder to use. With the Analog Keyboard Project we are exploring handwriting recognition for text input on very small touch screens.”

posted Microsoft Research on its company blog.

The Android Wear keyboard is a product of Microsoft Research. In order to install the keyboard, you will need the Android SDK and a USB or Bluetooth connection between your PC and watch. Microsoft is calling the keyboard as a prototype because currently, it only supports lower case and not uppercase characters and also it is not compatible with watches with a resolution of 280×280, which means the LG G Watch alone is incompatible.
