Google Play downloads surpass Apple App Store by 60%: Report

Google Play Store downloads exceeded that of Apple App Store by 60% as compared to the same time last year, according to a latest report by App Annie. The mobile research company revealed that Apple App Store generated 60% higher revenue than Google Play Store.

Google Play downloads saw strong growth in markets like Brazil, Indonesia and India in Q3 2014. In this period, Indonesia saw double-digit growth, which has been increasing every quarter for more than two years. However, in terms of earning revenue, Apple took the lead as thanks to large iPhone populations countries like the US and Japan. Meanwhile, Google Play was unable to garner revenue due to emerging markets that are not keen on spending for paid apps.

The report stated that Google Play’s revenue is primarily driven by gamers, says App Annie, and this quarter saw major increases in the U.S. and South Korea.
