Google Earth for Android gets improved 3D experience, faster map updates and more

Google has released a major update to Google Earth on Android by enhancing the 3D rendering technology. This is the biggest feature of the latest update that further highlights mountains, cities, rivers in the map.

“Starting today, you’ll see faster, smoother, and crisper transitions as you’re zooming into your dream destination in Google Earth. Thanks to a new 3D rendering technology—the first major 3D overhaul since Earth launched more than 10 years ago—sharper views of mountains and cities are just a virtual skydive away.”

In addition, the Google Earth app will now receive basemap updates at the same time as Google Maps. This means that mobile devices will be updated with information like place names, roads, and businesses much faster than before. Finally,the latest update to the new Earth app for Android introduces support for opening KML files for custom maps directly from Google Drive.

The 3D views of top cities alon with a Tour Guide feature to highlight different must-see spots as you travel and optional layers from sources like Wikipedia to add more context are still available for the Earth app.
