Android co-creator Andy Rubin leaving Google to start hardware incubator

Android co-creator Andy Rubin has decided to leave Google, as per latest report from the Wall Street Journal. The report said that he will be moving on to launch a hardware startup incubator.

Rubin’s departure comes roughly 18 months after he stepped down from leading the Android team at Google. James Kuffner, a research scientist in the division, will take over Rubin’s job. When Rubin left Android, he was replaced by Sundar Pichai in march, who already oversaw Chrome and Apps. Rubin cofounded Android in 2003 with Rich Miner, Nick Sears, and Chris White, and Google acquired the company two years later.

“I want to wish Andy all the best with what’s next. With Android he created something truly remarkable—with a billion plus happy users. Thank you.”

said Google CEO Larry Page in a statement.

Google has seen a lot of leadership changes lately. Last week, Sundar Pichai was given additional responsibility of research, search, maps, Google+, commerce and ads.
