Apple reportedly working on Glasses-Free 3D iPhone display

Apple is reportedly working on a 3D iPhone display, according to Chinese newspaper Economic Daily News. The report citing supply chain sources said that the company might be developing a glasses-free 3D display for next iPhone.

Moving on, the report further said that Apple is actively developing 3D “hardware and software ecosystems.” The glasses-free 3D display cannot be manufactured with in-cell touch technology that is currently present on the iPhone 6. Apple has been seen exploring 3D technology in the past as it had patented both proximity-based control schemes as well as more advanced holographic techniques. The report states that new panels for the 3D display will likely be supplied  by longitme partner TPK.

Last year, Apple had acquired PrimeSense which created the 3D motion-sensing technology behind Microsoft’s Kinect accessory for Xbox. Earlier this year, we also saw the launch of Amazon’s much hyped Fire Phone that includes 3D interface elements and gesture sensing technologies. There is no word from Apple about the 3D display for iPhone as yet.
