HTC launched the Desire 820 smartphone in India last month for Rs. 24,990. We brought you the hands-on and the photo gallery of the smartphone from the IFA back in September and the unboxing of the smartphone earlier this week. Here we have the comparison gallery of the Desire 820 and its predecessor Desire 816.
Both the smartphones have a 5.5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) display. The Desire 820 has a 8MP front-facing camera with wide angle lens, while the 816 comes with a 5MP camera. Both these have a BSI sensor and 1080p video recording. The Desire 820 is powered by Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor ( four ARM Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.5 GHz per core and four clocked at 1.0 GHz) with Adreno 405 GPU and has 2GB of RAM, compared to the 1.6 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor and 1.5GB RAM on the Desire 816.
Both these have on-screen buttons and HTC branding on the bezel, below the display. These have dual front speakers with built-in amplifiers and HTC BoomSound capabilities. The Desire 820 runs on Android 4.4 Kitkat with HTC Sense 6 UI on top. The Desire 816 was also released with Android 4.4 (KitKat), but it has HTC Sense 5.5 UI.
Both these have a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2, BSI sensor and supports 1080p Full HD video recording. The camera module looks bigger in the 820 since it has a blue ring around it.
Both have glossy finish on the back and have unibody construction. The Desire 820 comes in Santorini White, Marble White, Milky-way Grey , Tangerine White, Saffron Grey, Flamingo Grey, Blue Mist and Monarch Orange that are glossy back variants. It also comes in Tuxedo Grey matte back variant. Color availability might vary depending on the country. The Desire 816 comes in Black, White, Red, Green and Purple colors. Under the back cover both have a 2600mAh battery.
The position of the buttons and the slots have changed. The Desire 820 has volume rockers and power/lock button on the right side, but the Desire 816 has two nano SIM slots and a microSD card slot on the right side. Since the Desire 820 has dual color finish it makes the phone attractive. The Desire 820 measures 157.7 x 78.7 x 7.7 mm and weighs 155 grams and the Desire 816 is slightly taller and thicker measuring 156.6 x 78.7 x 7.99 mm. It weighs 165 grams.
The Desire 820 has two nano SIM slots and a microSD card slot on the left side. The Desire 816 has volume rockers and power/lock button on that side. The Desire 820 has 16GB of internal storage and the Desire 816 comes with 8GB of internal storage. Both these support microSD cards up to 128GB.
Both these have a micro USB slot on the bottom. Again, the blue finish around the slot and the sides make it look better.
These have a secondary microphone and 3.5mm audio jack on the top.
