Xiaomi pulls $163M in sales on Single’s Day in China

Xiaomi continued to sell its smartphones like hot cakes but this time in China. The company clocked $163 million (¥1 billion) in 12 hours by selling 720,000 phones.

Xiaomi achieved this milestone on China’s marathon 24-hour online sales event , Singles Day which is the largest online sale in the country. Hugo Barra, Vice President, Xiaomi Global in a Google+ post has claimed that the company sold 720,000 Mi phones in 12 hours of the sale. He also revealed that the company earned $16 million in the first five minutes of their sale going live. Xiaomi even beat its record last year within four hours.

Out of the 720,000 smartphones, 250,000 were Mi4 handset, 460,000 were the Redmi and Xiaomi also claims to have sold around 25,000 Mi TVs as well. Yesterday, it was reported that Xiaomi is in talks to raise $1.5 billion in funding and last week another report said that the company is seeking to secure funding that will value it at over $40 billion.

The Chinese smartphone maker became the third largest smartphone maker in the world as its Q3 2014 sales hit 17.3 million units.
