Samsung will reportedly supply 80% of Apple’s processors in 2016

Samsung is said to be supplying 80% of Apple’s future processors, according to a latest report from the Korean Times. Apple will use these processors for upcoming iPhone and iPad models in 2016.

The rest of the 20% processors will be manufactured by TSMC. Samsung’s recent partnership with GlobalFoundries has allowed it to produce sufficient quantities of processors to meet Apple’s demands. Chip production is reportedly set to start early next year, and will take place in Giheung, Gyeonggi Province, in Austin, Texas, and New York.

Apple and Samsung collaboration will allow both companies to deliver global capacity for 14 nm application processors. The Korean tech giant is even expected to secure more chip orders from industry heavyweights such as Qualcomm, NVIDIA, and Sony. Value of the deal is said to be worth “billion of dollars” said the report.
