Samsung is planning to shut down ChatOn instant messaging service in certain markets, according to latest report from the Korea Times. The move comes from the company as it restructuring the unprofitable business.
The company’s official mentioned that Samsung’s IM service will not be shut down in the markets where it has received positive reactions and reviews. Another executive from Samsung stated that ChatOn is not a business that can show improvement in the future. It is not known as yet in which markets will Samsung shut down the ChatOn service which is available in 120 markets.
ChatOn is available on Android, iOS and BlackBerry with some 100 million users. However, the app has been facing tough competition by competitors like Viber, Snapchat and Whatsapp. Samsung’s profit fell in Q3 this year and mobile revenue was down by 15%.
