VLC for Android sheds beta tag, available for download

VLC for Android has finally come out of beta after two years. The media player has received its first stable release and is now available for download at the Google Play Store.

The VLC for Android v1.0 build will allow users to play videos and other media files from their Android devices. This new version comes roughly three months after v0.9.9 and brings fixes for crashing on Android 5.0 Lollipop, as well as fixes for unspecified issues with ARMv8 processors. Chromecast support is still not added the VLC app.

VLC for Android is compatible with any device running Android 2.1 and higher.
