Android Wear Watch Face API released

Earlier today, Google announced the Android Wear 5.0 Lollipop update. In addition to the update, Google also announced that the official API for Android Wear watch faces is available to developers.

Developers are being given full access to the Watch Face API, which means that we will all soon enjoy legitimate watch face apps. The new API officially allows developers to customize the user interface on Android Wear devices, enhancing the overall user experience across the platform. Developers can now also submit their apps to be designated as Android Wear apps to make it easier for Wear users to discover them.

The company has also published a video to  help give some guidelines to developers on how to take advantage of the API and help them get started. Google is also asking developers to transition their watch faces to new API by January 31st, as after that the company will completely remove support for watch faces that are not built with the API. Besides updating Android 5.0 and releasing API, Google is also releasing watch faces to Google Play Store.
