Pinterest to make Promoted Pins program open to advertisers

Pinterest has announced that it will open its Promoted Pins program for advertisers. The popular scrapbooking network was available for certain advertisers for more than eight months in beta.

Pinterest has revealed that starting January 1st 2015,  Pinterest will allow marketers to pay for and place ads across its site in the form of ‘Promoted Pins. The company is claiming that the limited marketers that were involved in the beta testing program have reported a 30% increase in “earmed media”. Pinterest says advertisers will have access to more ad formats and advanced targeting. The company is also testing out an auction-based marketing product, based on clicks rather than impressions, but they’re not releasing information on that program yet.

In addition,Pinterest is also introducing Pinstitute, that allows advertisers to learn about and share best practices for promoting brands on the site. It is a program for businesses to learn how to connect with Pinners, and how to see a better return.
