Sony SmartEyeglass visits FCC, Facebook and Twitter apps for device hits Play Store

Sony demoed the SmartEyeglass prototype at CES 2015 last month. Now, the SmartEyeglass which is a wearable eyewear device has passed through the FCC.

The Sony SmartEyeglass eyewear is equipped with a glass see-trough displays, together with an embedded camera, accelerometer, gyroscope, compass and brightness sensors. Sony had said that that the wearable gadget would go on sale before the end of March 2015. The FCC filing does not give much detail about the product except for a diagram. As per the filing, the device is present under the model number SED-E1 and will be equipped with both Bluetooth and WiFi antennas. The battery installed in the test device is a 630mAh unit.

Following its visit to the FCC, Sony has also released a couple of apps that will run on the SmartEyeglass. For starters, Sony has launched Facebook and Twitter apps for the eyewear device. B0th the apps are available to download at the Google Play Store, but will not function as the SmartEyeglass device is yet to be launched. Sony SmartEyeglass will be compatible not just with Xperia handsets, but with all smartphones running at least Android 4.1.
