Google Android One expands to Philippines, Cherry Mobile One and MyPhone Uno launched

Google just announced that it will launch new Android One smartphones in Philippines in coming weeks. Google launched Android One smartphones in India back in September last year. It expanded to Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka last month and to Indonesia earlier this month. Philippines becomes the sixth country to get Android One smartphones officially.

Google has released two smartphones – Cherry Mobile One and MyPhone Uno in the country. All these have similar specifications as the Android One devices that were launched in India that includes a 4.5-inch FWVGA screen, 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 1GB RAM and a 1700mAh, but the Cherry Mobile One has 8GB of internal storage and the MyPhone Uno comes with 4GB of storage. These run on Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. Google says that the it will get the new version of Lollipop 5.1 soon after it’s released.

Google has partnered with local service providers Smart and Sun Cellular to offer free over-the-air (OTA) updates (up to 100MB/month) and 200MB of data per month for app downloads from Google Play for the first six months for these Android One smartphones. These smartphones will go on sale in Philippines in coming weeks.
