Pebble also introduced smartstraps that lets accessory makers add electronics and sensors to interface directly with apps running on Pebble Time. This draws power from the pogo pin on the back and could add GPS, heart rate monitor, NFC, battery extension and lots more. Since you can change the strap, you can add a new feature easily.
It has also released mechanical and electrical designs that can be 3D printed, so that accessory makers can start working on the smartstraps. Pebble says that it is finalizing the entire system and may work on some of our its own smartstraps in future.
The Pebble Time Steel costs $250, exclusively for Kickstarter and starts shipping in July. It will be $299 when it retails in stores.
