Apple’s CEO Tim Cook at the company’s ‘Spring Forward’ event in San Francisco revealed that they have now sold 700 million iPhones across the globe. The Cupertino giant has achieved the feat in just a little more than seven years after first iPhone went on sale.
Apple iPhone sales had reached about 500 million a year ago, but the growth in the past twelve months has been mind boggling.
The rapid increase in the overall sales figure is largely thanks to the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. In the last quarter alone, Apple has sold about 75 million iPhones.
According to Tim Cook, the iPhone sales have also surpassed the global smartphone sales rate on a year-on-year basis. Apple iPhone’s growth is claimed to have grown 49% as compared to last year, while other smartphone manufacturers have seen a 26% rise.
If Apple manages to sales its iPhones in a similar manner, then the billionth mark is not too far away.
