Microsoft’s Cortana will be released for Android and iOS platforms as a standalone app, according to a report from Reuters. Cortana was released first on Windows Phone last year with the Windows Phone 8.1 update. Several apps had received support for Cortana since the release. Cortana will be coming to Windows 10 PCs and tablets soon.
Microsoft’s Eric Horvitz, managing director of Microsoft Research in an interview to Reuters said that the company is planning a major roll out of Cortana this fall, which will read and understand email. The more advanced version of Cortana, codenamed project Einstein will improve the awareness of Cortana and its ability to automate even more tasks, according to the report.
Google already updated its Google Search app with Google Now for iPhone and iPad. Releasing Cortana as a standalone app on Android and iPhone will likely increase its user base. It is not clear how good it will gather details such as email in other platforms. Are you using virtual assistant apps such as Siri, Google Now or Cortana frequently?
