Facebook Messenger gets money transfer feature

Facebook has added a new feature to Messenger that will allows users to send and receive money. The feature is coming to Android, iOS and desktop in coming months.

Users can link their Master Card or Visa debit cards to the service and use it to message money to one another just. In order to send money, users will have to message a friend, tap the $ icon, enter the amount that needs to be sent and tap Pay button in the top right corner. While to receive the money users will have to open the conversation and tap Add Card in the message.

“We use secure systems that encrypt the connection between you and Facebook as well as your card information when you ask us to store it for you. We use layers of software and hardware protection that meet the highest industry standards. These payment systems are kept in a secured environment that is separate from other parts of the Facebook network and that receive additional monitoring and control. A team of anti-fraud specialists monitor for suspicious purchase activity to help keep accounts safe.”

Facebook claims the money you send is transferred “right away,” but the company warns you should expect delays. For now, the service will come only to Messenger users in the U.S. and there is no word about ta global rollout. Snapchat, the ephemeral messaging app launched Snapcash money transfer tool in November last year.
