Google’s Executive Chairman, Eric Schmidt has dismissed rumors about killing the Google Glass. He told The Wall Street Journal Google Glass is not dead, in fact it has started.
“It is a big and very fundamental platform for Google. We ended the Explorer program and the press conflated this into us canceling the whole project, which isn’t true. Google is about taking risks and there’s nothing about adjusting Glass that suggests we’re ending it.”
Schmidt told the WSJ.
Google stopped the sales of the Google Glass in January and moved the device out of its research lab, Google X, and into a standalone unit. Schmidt added that like all long-term projects that are too futuristic for the present day, Glass will take some time to perfect. He said that Glass remained “a big and very fundamental platform for Google” and added that just like the firm’s self-driving cars, it was a work in progress and will take years to make a final product.
The Explorer programme, which gave software developers the chance to buy Glass for $1,500 was launched in the United States in 2013. It was then opened up to anyone and was launched in the UK last summer.
