Samsung showed off foldable display at CES 2014 but not for general public. Now a fresh report from Business Korea is stating that the company is working on foldable smartphones that are expected to release by next year.
There are four different stages in the evolution of flexible display technology and the industry came to identify these steps as “curved”, “bent”, “foldable” and “rollable”. LG’s G Flex 2 and Samsung’s curved edge displays, which can bend up and down and side to side, are between the first and second stages. Samsung told the publication that “the commercialization of foldable smartphones will be possible in 2016″. The IHS recently released a report claiming that foldable tablets might hit the market by the end of this year.
LG on the other hand has been experimenting with transparent displays and told the publication thatis completed and a promotional prototype is already available.
