Delhi Govt. warns Uber, Ola against resuming operation, blocks mobile apps

The authorities of Delhi Government has warned online taxi service Uber and Ola on resuming operations. The Transport Department of Delhi Government has asked the services to cease their operations in Delhi or their application for radio-taxi licenses will not be processed.

The government, in December had ordered all unregistered online taxi companies to cease their services after an Uber driver raped a lady passenger in New Delhi. Uber had stopped its service following government orders,but resumed it in January after applying for a radio-taxi license, while Ola continued the operations.

Delhi’s government transport department said in separate letter to local units of Uber and Ola that continuing their taxi services would contravene a December order by the government, said the report. Moving on, the government has also asked union Information Technology ministry to block mobile applications of taxi-hailing companies Uber and Ola.
