Facebook starts testing WhatsApp integration for its Android app

Facebook announced the WhatsApp acquisition in February last year that finally completed in October for $22 billion. Now the social network its testing WhatsApp integration for its Android app, as per a latest report from Geektime.

Facebook is rolling out a new update that bumps the Android app to version 31.0.0.7.13. Under this update, some users are seeing a WhatsApp send button that has the WhatsApp icon above it. This button is present next to the “Like”, “Comment” and “Share” button under each status update on Facebook.  The integration will allow users to send photos,videos and other content from Facebook to WhatsApp with the use of this “Send” button.

It must be noted that this feature has not rolled out to all users and is in the process of testing period.  This marks as the first initiative from Facebook to integrate WhatsApp which are more than 700 million active mobile users. According to reports, teams are already working on a deeper integration that will include the ability to send messages between Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. Facebook is the biggest social network in the world with over 1.35 billion users and WhatsApp is the largest mobile messaging platform that has more than 700 million monthly active users.
