Flipkart has decided to pull out of Airtel Zero platform and has fully committed to the cause of net neutrality. The move comes from the largest homegrown retailer after it faced bitter customer judgement about supporting Airtel Zero program.
“We will be committing ourselves to the larger cause of Net Neutrality in India. We will be internally discussing over the next few days, the details of actions we will take to support the cause. We will be working towards ensuring that the spirit of net neutrality is upheld and applied equally to all companies in India irrespective of the size or the service being offered and there is absolutely no discrimination whatsoever.”
said Flipkart in an official statement.
For those unaware, Airtel Zero is a programme that will allow app developers who tie-up with the company to allow consumers to access these apps for zero data charge. The app developers, companies will pay Airtel to keep their app usage free which violates the principles of a free internet. Soon after Flipkart announced its decision to join Airtel Zero, its apps and Android and iOS has been receiving one star ratings followed by comments mentioning the net neutrality issue.
