Google’s planned mobile-friendly update is finally out. The Search giant announced that the update has begun to roll out globally starting Tuesday.
The company initially started labeling ‘mobile-friendly’ content in November last year and asked developers to create mobile-friendly websites in February. Now with mobile- friendly update to Google Search, users will see the boost in the ranking of mobile-friendly pages on mobile search results. Google clarifies that the change will not impact Searches on desktop or tablets.
The update will affect search results in all languages globally and applies to individual pages, not entire websites, adds Google on its blog.
Now searchers can more easily find high-quality and relevant results where text is readable without tapping or zooming, tap targets are spaced appropriately, and the page avoids unplayable content or horizontal scrolling.
Google says that apart from mobile-friendly content, searches will still use a variety of signals to rank the results. So a clearly intended Google Search query on mobile will still have the higher ranking even if the content is not mobile-friendly.
