The Mi 4i is to the Mi 4 what the iPhone 5C was to the 5S. The design is very similar to the iPhone 5C in fact. At the front you find a 5 inch display from JDI (Japan Display Inc) with full HD 1080p resolution that works out to around 441ppi (pixels per inch). It’s an IPS panel that Xiaomi is calling a Sunlight display which means it should perform quite well under sunlight. The viewing angles are also quite good and the display is protected by Corning OGS glass. The device is powered by a Snapdragon 615 processor and a 3120 mAH battery.

Above the display you will find an array of sensors and a 5 Megapixel camera with a maximum aperture of f1.8 as opposed to the 8 Megapixel unit on the Mi 4. The front facing camera offers an 80 degree wide angle view and 36 smart beauty profiles to enhance your selfie experience.

Below the display you’ve three capacitive buttons for back, home and recent apps.

Moving over to the back, you find the 13 Megapixel camera (Sony sensor) with a maximum aperture of f2.0. Next to it is the two-tone flash that’ll help you click more natural looking photos. The camera supports 1080p videos and real time HDR. The flash can also be used as a standalone torch.

At the bottom you will find the speaker which has Smart PA which amplifies the sound and improves playback quality. We’re not sure if the speaker gets muffled when placed on a flat surface but we will let you know more about that once we get to spend more time with the device.

On the left side you have the dual microSIM slot. The good thing about the Mi 4i is that it supports 4G LTE connectivity (upto 16 bands) on both the slots. There’s 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built in memory but no memory card slot for expanding it further.

On the right side you’ve the volume rocker button below which you’ve the power/lock key.

You have the 3.5mm audio jack at the top and the microUSB port at the bottom.

The phone is available in 5 different colours – Black, White, Blue, Yellow and Pink. All the colours come in a matte finish. The phone retails at a price of Rs 12,999 through Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal. The registrations begin today at 8pm and the phone will go on sale on April 30th.
