MixRadio, the personalized music streaming service, finally arrives on Android and iOS platforms as well. Until now, the service was only available to Windows Lumia devices.
Originally created by Nokia in 2007 and then owned by Microsoft, MixRadio was sold to Japan’s LINE messenger service in 2014. The service is already available in 31 countries and is been developed and improved upon on offering personalised music offering from many years, says MixRadio CEO Jyrki Rosenberg.
Commenting on the Android and iOS app launch, Jyrki Rosenberg said:
“We’re excited to be bringing our personalized and easy-to-use music streaming service to a huge new audience. For many people this will be the first time they have been able to experience MixRadio; we’re confident they will love the simplicity of the experience and the quality of the personalization we deliver. We cut out the clutter between the listener and the music they love, helping them enjoy, discover and rediscover great music.
Similar to Pandora, MixRadio is free to use, and monetizes with advertising. It is possible that the service gets a subscription option in future. MixRadio offers personalised suggestions with one touch ‘MyMix’ feature based on user’s listening habits and more. It allows them to download up to four of their favourite mixes for offline listening from a collection of over 35 million songs.
The service has also announced co-marketing partnership with HTC. MixRadio will exclusively provide music updates for HTC’s BlinkFeed, providing personalised music news tailored to the users’ music tastes, says company.
Commenting on the partnership, Phil Blair, President of HTC EMEA said:
“HTC is a pioneer in providing top quality audio experiences via mobile. We were the first smartphone company to combine dual stereo speakers, a finely tuned sound profile and Dolby decoding technology to deliver an end-to-end multi-channel audio solution, HTC BoomSound. The MixRadio partnership is the latest example of HTC investing in delivering rich audio experiences, helping us bring completely personal and relevant music news to our users, so they never miss out on the latest releases and mixes of the music they love.”
MixRadio says that the service will maintain and keep on developing its existing partnerships with Adidas for MiCoach Smart Run watch, and Harman Kardon for Omni speakers as well, and has no plans to leave its existing users on Windows Phone.
