Back in November 2014, the NVIDIA Shield Tablet was one of the first devices beside the Nexus lineup to receive the update to Android Lollipop 5.0 and now the tablet has started receiving the update to Lollipop 5.1

The update is now available for download as an OTA (over-the-air) update and is roughly 200 MB in size. The update will feature more of performance improvements and bug fixes rather than UI changes or feature additions.

As you can see from the image above, the change-log includes improved performance, responsiveness and enhanced security. There is now a Global Tone mapping feature for the display and a new firmware update for the SHIELD controller. Apart from this, users will also be able to experience improvements to the camera, audio quality and the modem. There are also many other fixes that aren’t mentioned in the change-log and we will just have to use it and see what has changed or improved.

The update is available for both the Wi-Fi as well as the LTE versions of the tablet and while it is already out, the update might take some time to actually reach your particular device. If you do not wish to wait, you can download the image files for the update at the source below. However we do recommend that you update the device through the regular method as it is the safest option for your device.
