Google has announced that it will now begin indexing content from iOS apps in mobile search results. The move comes from the company a month after it started suggesting users install Android apps right from its search results.
Google is now extending this functionality to third party iOS apps. The App Indexing feature that Google launched for app developers back in 2013 allowed developers to list content from their apps on Google’s search engine. Google says it will start offering indexed links for “a small group of test partners initially,” though it is working to make the feature available to more app developers “as soon as possible. These indexed links will start appearing in both the Google app and Chrome for signed-in users.
Google also outlines instructions for developers on how to get an iOS app indexed in search results, a process that, among other steps, involves adding deep linking support to the app and submitting an iOS app indexing interest form.
