Adobe has acquired Mixamo, a 3D graphics company for an undisclosed sum. The company will use Mixamo’s 3D technology into Photoshop and Creative Cloud.
With the Mixamo integration, designers can more easily create, customize, manipulate, rig and animate 3D objects as well as more easily employ ready-made components. The acquisition is more of an acqui-hire and Mixamo will stop selling new services after this. Adobe has recognized the power of 3D design for some time and even incorporated 3D compositing and printing in Photoshop last year. It’s introduction of 3D design technology to the millions of Creative Cloud subscribers was seen a major boost to the 3D printing market.
“We’re taking another step toward unlocking the power of 3D for designers by announcing the acquisition of Mixamo, a San Francisco based company that enables designers to create and customize a broad range of high quality 3D characters and animations, which provide significant benefits for the design community”
posted Adobe’s, Winston Hendrickson, VP of products and digital imaging, in a company blog.
