Instagram now open to more advertisers, adds app install and buy button

Get ready to see more ads on Instagram. The photo sharing service from Facebook has announced that it is getting some new advertising tool along with more ads.

Instagram first announced in 2013 that it is bringing ads in the US. Last year it expanded the ads to UK, Australia and Canada with a handful of partners. Now, the company has announced that it will bring on board more marketers and open its platform for more advertisers. Instagram says it will offer marketers the ability to target consumers on Instagram by age, gender and other demographic factors, just as they can on Facebook. It will begin to use data from your Facebook profile to target you with more relevant ads. Instagram will also begin testing an ad format that allows viewers to click on a link to buy a product or install an app.

“To give all businesses the opportunity to reach the right people, we are working to make Instagram advertising available through an Instagram Ads API and Facebook ad buying interfaces over the coming months”

posted Instagram on a company blog.

Instagram will also begin testing a type of ad that allows viewers to click on a link to buy a product or install an app that is advertised. The app also said it’s going to let businesses “of all sizes” start displaying ads, a move to help make money off of its 300 million monthly users. Instagram introduced clickable  ‘carousel ads’ in March.
