Samsung will announce a new Gear smartwatch that will support NFC based mobile payments, as per a report from Reuters. The South Korean company is expected to launch the smartwatch in second half of the year.
Samsung is expected to announce a round dial smartwatch which is apparently dubbed as Orbis. The watch will not have calling capabilities and run on Tizen OS. It will boast of a Exynos 7420 processor and will most likely will be announced at IFA in September. Last month Samsung’s Gear SDK revealed the design of Orbis and it will feature a round design with a rotating bezel around the display. The 1.65 inch display will be perfectly circular unlike the Moto 360 and will have a resolution of 360×360 pixels. Other specifications include a bunch of sensors such as accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate monitor, pressure sensor and magnetic sensor.
The report also said that Samsung’s mobile payment service Samsung Pay that supports NFC technology will be available with selected partners in July. Last week, it was said that Samsung Pay launch will be delayed till September.
