Eyefi adds wireless transfer support for GoPro and Olympus cameras

Eyefi-cloudEyefi has long been the go-to solution for users wanting to add wireless capabilities to their cameras but it has required users to purchase one of their own WiFi enabled SD cards. With more and more cameras shipping with WiFi built into them, Eyefi has announced that you’ll now be able to interface with GoPro and Olympus cameras to transfer images from them via the Eyefi application.

The Eyefi app works with the built in WiFi on these cameras and allows you to pull in images wirelessly. You can then share these using social networks or to your computer. However Eyefi hopes that you’d also take a look at their own cloud storage offering. For $4.99 a month, you can use the Eyefi cloud service to store unlimited images online. We’d recommend that you stick to the likes of Google Photos or other cloud storage providers but the option is certainly there. Android users get to try out the expanded WiFi functionality starting today while iOS users will get access to the feature later this year. If you are not currently subscribed to the Eyefi service, you’ll have to invest $4.99 to enable the feature as a one time purchase in the app. Compatibility is restricted to the GoPro Hero 3,4 and the Hero+. On the Olympus side, Eyefi promises support for the Stylus 1, Stylus TG860, Pen E-P5 and the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II.
