HTC has one of the better custom interfaces out there when it comes to Android skins. Ever since Sense UI 5, the company has introduced a special feature called BlinkFeed that can essentially be considered an endless feed of your social life, content based on your interests and if the Taiwanese company’s trial succeeds, then promotional adverts as well.
HTC has begun promoting native advertising in the BlinkFeed app as part of a test run in a limited number of markets. These posts will appear within your feed and the aim is to tailor them to your taste so that it can provide promotions and also promote app & service discovery. BlinkFeed itself is not intrusive and appears only when you swipe over to the left of the homescreen so you can well choose to ignore the advertising if you want. There will be a way to opt out of the advertising as well but at the moment there’s not much that you can do about it. The company says that this is a pilot run and depending on consumer feedback, it may or may not make this change permanent. Promotions in HTC BlinkFeed will be available in the UK, US, Germany, Taiwan and China.
