Lycos started off as a search engine and over time has pivoted into multiple verticals like web hosting, mail and even entertainment content. With Lycos Life, the company is aiming to get a foothold into the fast growing wearables segment. On that note, with the launch of their Lycos Life initiative, the company has introduced the Lycos Band and Ring wearables in the Indian market.
The Lycos Ring is essentially a smart fashion accessory that employs NFC to unlock your handset. Lycos says that the ring can also be used to log in to apps and websites. The band will be available in six different colors and doesn’t require a battery to work.
“The most valuable commodity in life is time and this technology helps Lycos Life users maximize their time by making smarter and more informed decisions using the data they receive from LYCOS Life,” said Brad Cohen, President & Chief Strategy Officer of Lycos during the launch.
The Lycos Band on the other hand builds on top of the functionality offered by the ring and offers fairly robust fitness tracking capabilities. The water resistant plastic band has a small screen built into it and can count steps, track sleep, work as an alarm. The band can also measure your heart rate in real time showing live EKG/ECG to adjust your workout according to heart rate zones. The band supports displaying basic notifications and messages over Bluetooth through the Lycos Life application on your phone. Battery life is rated for about 2 weeks. The Lycos Ring and Band are priced at Rs. 3,500 and Rs. 7,500 respectively.
