Back in March, WhatApp started rolling out voice calling functionality to Android users. The company updated their iOS application next to bring the much awaited feature to the vast number of users of Apple’s hardware. Today, the company is finally bringing voice calling to WhatsApp users on Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform.
Changelog:
- WhatsApp Calling: Call your friends and family using WhatsApp for free, even if they’re in another country.
- WhatsApp calls use your phone’s Internet connection rather than your cellular plan’s voice minutes. Data charges may apply.
- You can now send audio files (available on Windows Phone 8.1+)
- Notifications for calls and chats are show separately on top left.
In typical fashion, users of Windows Phone devices are used to being left out of features so it is nice to see support for the platform. The delayed update also brings additional functionality in the form of the ability to send audio files. WhatsApp voice calling enables users to make free calls over WiFi or cellular data between WhatsApp users across platforms.
