Apple iPad is hitting stores on April 3rd and you already saw some ipad unboxing videos from high profile US publications who have been reviewing Apple’s Tablet for over a week now. Here is a round up of the iPad reviews so far and looks like Apple has got most things right on the iPad atleast the reviews say so. It’s not a perfect device but it creates a whole new digital experience
Wall Street Journal’s Walt Mossberg has been using the ipad for a week now
All in all, however, the iPad is an advance in making more-sophisticated computing possible via a simple touch interface on a slender, light device. Only time will tell if it’s a real challenger to the laptop and netbook.
I also was impressed with the overall speed of the iPad. Apple’s custom processor makes it wicked fast. Screens appear almost instantly, and the Wi-Fi in my home tested as fast as it does on a laptop.
The iPad lasted 11 hours and 28 minutes
My verdict is that, while it has compromises and drawbacks, the iPad can indeed replace a laptop for most data communication
And the techies are right about another thing: the iPad is not a laptop. It’s not nearly as good for creating stuff. On the other hand, it’s infinitely more convenient for consuming it — books, music, video, photos, Web, e-mail and so on. For most people, manipulating these digital materials directly by touching them is a completely new experience — and a deeply satisfying one.
PCMag has a indepth review of the iPad and here are some interesting points from them
- iPad is not a perfect product
- There may be things it doesn’t do, but what it does do, it does remarkably well.
- You can actually get real work done with the iPad.
- But I can tell you that when my laptop eventually dies, I’ll be getting one.
USA Today’s Edward Baig calls the iPad a winner and feels that only the iPad can fuel the mass market adoption of Tablet computing
The first iPad is a winner. It stacks up as a formidable electronic-reader rival for Amazon’s Kindle. It gives portable game machines from Nintendo and Sony a run for their money. At the very least, the iPad will likely drum up mass-market interest in tablet computing in ways that longtime tablet visionary and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates could only dream of.
Apple has pretty much nailed it with this first iPad, though there’s certainly room for improvement. Nearly three years after making a splash with the iPhone, Apple has delivered another impressive product that largely lives up to the hype.
BoingBoing ‘s Xeni Jardin is very excited about the iPad and call the device a touch of genius
Flick the switch and the novelty hits. Just as the iPhone, Palm Pré and Android phones scratched an itch we didn’t know we had—somewhere between cellphone and notebook—the iPad hits a completely new pleasure spot.
Chicago Sun Times thinks the iPad is pure innovation and one of best computers ever and the author Andy Ihnatko turned down a full time job offer as a movie critic to write this article and feels he made the right choice
They create the iPad. The iPad user experience is instantly compelling and elegant. It’s not every computer and every function. It’s a computer that’s designed for speed, mobility, and tactile interaction above all other considerations.
