Vivo to kick start manufacturing phones in Noida by October, invests Rs 12.5 cr

Following the league of various smartphone makers, Vivo is looking forward to start manufacturing smartphones in India, as per a latest report from the Economic Times.

The Chinese smartphone maker is said to kick start the manufacturing from October. Vivo is making an initial investment of Rs 12.5 cr and aims to sell two million handsets by the end of this year. 4G LTE devices are said to account for 40% of the sale. Alex Feng, CEO of Vivo India and chief marketing officer of Vivo Global told the publication that they have taken 30,000 square meters of land on lease in Greater Noida and expects to start assembling smartphones by October 2015. Vivo introduced its first handset in the India in December last year. Yesterday, the company announced Vivo V1 and Vivo V1 Max smartphones that will be priced between Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000, and will hit stores later this month.

Global smartphone makers like HTC, SonyMicrosoft and LG who are also planning to start manufacturing mobile handsets in India. LenovoMotorolaAsusMicromaxCelkon and Karbonn are other companies who have also decided to set up a manufacturing facility in the country.
