YU YUREKA Plus vs YUREKA – What’s different?

YU YUREKA Plus

Micromax announced the original YU YUREKA at the end of last year as the first phone in its YU range of smartphones that are powered by CyanogenMod OS. Earlier this year in May, Micromax also announced the YU YUPHORIA which was a model that was priced below the YUREKA. The YUREKA was launched at a retail price of Rs 8999 while the YUPHORIA was launched at a retail price of Rs 6999. Now, we have another addition to the YU family of devices – the YU YUREKA PLUS at a retail price of Rs 9999.Let us take a closer look at the YUREKA PLUS and see what has changed compared to the original.

The YU YUREKA PLUS is to the original YUREKA what the Lenovo K3 Note is to the Lenovo A7000. The primary difference as in the case of the K3 Note and A7000 is the upgraded display. While the screen size remains the same at 5.5″, the YUREKA PLUS houses a 1080p panel as opposed to the 720p panel on the YUREKA. Both the devices have Gorilla Glass on top of the displays for protection.

The design remains the same and since the screens size also remains unchanged, the phone’s dimensions also are identical to the original YUREKA. YU hasn’t confirmed the weight of the YUREKA PLUS but we expect it to be around 155 grams which is the weight of the YUREKA. While YUREKA shipped with Android KitKat out of the box and got an update later on, the YUREKA PLUS will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box and will run CyanogenMod OS 12 on top just like the YUREKA.

At the heart of the phone, the processor remains the same octa-core Snapdragon 615 chipset that is clocked in at 1.7GHz along with Adreno 405 GPU. Both the phones also have 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built in memory which can be expanded using microSD cards upto 32GB. In order to access the microSD card slot, you have to remove the back panel on both. Doing so will also give the user access to the removable battery as well as dual-SIM card slots. Despite the bump in screen resolution, the battery capacity remains unchanged at 2500 mAH on the YUREKA PLUS. Both the phones support 4G LTE on both microSIM slots however it can support 4G LTE only on one slot at a time while the other remains on 2G.

Both have the same 13 Megapixel camera unit (4208 x 3120 pixels resolution) at the back with an LED flash. It is capable of recording 1080p videos at 30 fps. There is a 5 Megapixel camera at the front as well. Both phones have Bluetooth 4.0 and support for Wi-Fi a/b/g/n. While the original YUREKA was available only in one colour ie Moonstone Grey, the YUREKA PLUS brings another colour to the table which is known as Alabaster White.
