Microsoft rolls out SMS like simple email app Send for iOS

Microsoft has launched a lightweight and simple email app dubbed as ‘Send’ for iOS. The app brings instant messaging apps like experience to email.

Send is not a full featured email app and lets users have the SMS like experience for sending quick mails, especially to co-workers. The Send app scraps official elements of an email like the subject line, signatures, salutation and so on. Instead the Send email app only shows threads that have been started from within the app. But conversations are synced with Outlook, so you can pick up a chat from within your email account later.

“With Send, there are no signatures, subject lines or salutations required. Our design principle for the app was to make conversations fast and fluid while keeping the people who are important to you at its core. Send connects to Office 365 business and school email accounts to surface your frequent and recent contacts.”

posted Microsoft in a company blog.

The Send email app is an innovation from Microsoft Garage, which is Microsoft’s internal initiative that lets employees and teams turn ideas into real-world projects. It is launching today in the U.S. and Canada for iPhone users with Office 365 business and school email accounts. Microsoft said that the app is coming soon for the Android and Windows Phone.
