A new report suggests that Samsung saw a 2.3% decline in its market share during Q2 2015 compared to the same time frame in 2014. Samsung is the only one among the top 5 smartphone vendors to have a decline in market share compared to last year.

The report published by IDC states that the smartphone market has grown by 11.6% YoY (Year on Year) compared to the same time last year and becomes the second highest quarter in terms of total shipments. Samsung saw a decrease in shipments of 73.2 million units during Q2 2015 compared to the 74.9 million units that they were able to ship during Q2 2014.

Apple on the other hand managed to have a 34.9% growth in shipments YoY as they managed a total number of 47.5 million units in Q2 2015 compared to the 35.2 million units during Q2 2014. Other brands in the top five such as Huawei, Xiaomi and Lenovo also saw 48.1%, 29.4% and 2.4% growth respectively.

So while the Samsung S6 and S6 Edge is reportedly bringing Samsung more revenue, it still isn’t enough to prevent other manufacturers from taking a bite into Samsung’s major market share.
