Sharp’s 3D Touchscreen LCD for Mobiles

Sharp, a big player in the electronics industry, has created a 3D touchscreen LCD for mobile phones. The LCD would allow users to switch easily between 2D and 3D modes thereby eliminating loss of power through 3D when not required.

The LCD can be viewed in 3D without the need for 3D glasses thanks to the special technology. The technology used is called a parallax barrier system. It consists of a series of vertical slits, is incorporated into an ordinary LCD to control the path of light reaching the right and left eyes, thus creating a sense of depth. The new screen increases brightness and contrast compared to regular 3D touchscreens.

Sharp will launch this alongside their non 3D touchscreen LCD towards 2nd half of 2010.
