category winner of the Tele.net Telecom Operator Award 2010 ~
Hyderabad, April 8th 2010 – Uninor has been recognized as the Most Promising New Operator in the Telecom Operator Award 2010 organized by tele.net, one of India’s leading telecom sector publications. The selection was based on a survey conducted by the publication with over 160 industry experts and professionals where Uninor emerged as winner by a strong margin.
The recognition comes within months of Uninor’s service launch in 8 telecom circles in India. The company has already made a strong start to its operations, securing an average of 1 million subscribers per month. By the end of February, Uninor had secured over 3.5 million subscribers across its operational regions.
Accepting the award, Uninor’s Managing Director Stein-Erik Vellan said, “This recognition is special; coming as it does from experts from our industry recognizing our performance and potential in the Indian market. I accept this award with pride and on behalf of the entire Uninor team”
The company started its operations in December 2009 with the world’s largest Greenfield GSM launch covering a footprint of 600 million. In the process, Uninor has taken leadership on several core issues relevant to the industry – ranging from a unique infrastructure model based entirely on outsourcing to defying norms by launching with tariffs based on segmentation. The approach to brand building and a decentralized hub based organization model also mark out a unique course.
Uninor is presently focused on further strengthening its presence in the 8 circles and launching additional circles this year.
“We are on our way; with a set of ideas, a unique way of doing business and most importantly, a philosophy that puts people first. Today’s recognition encourages us to get there even faster,” said Dushyan Vaithiyanathan, Executive Vice President, AP, Uninor
