Android Lollipop adoption hits 18.1%


Google has released Android distribution numbers for June and July. Android Lollipop is now running on 18.1% of Android devices of which 5.0 Lollipop is present on 15.5% of devices while Lollipop 5.1 runs on 2.6%.

The latest numbers covers a period from June 1 to August 3. Android Lollipop adoption increased by 5.7% as it was 12.4% in June. KitKat (Android 4.4) also increased from 39.2% to 39.3% while Jelly Bean on the other hand declined from 37.4% to 33.6%. Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.3-Android 4.0.4, 4.1%) is at 4.1% while Gingerbread (Android 2.3) has move down to 4.6% from 5.6%. Finally, Froyo (Android 2.2,) is still staying strong and is present on 0.3% of Android devices.

Lollipop is continuing its surge every month as it was present on mere 1.6 percent of devices in February and 3.3 percent in March. With smartphone makers launching fresh devices with latest Android 5.0 and 5.1, the adoption will only soar in coming months while at the same time KitKat adoption will see a downfall.
