LG had announced NUCLUN Octa-Core processor with four 1.5GHz cores ARM Cortex-A15 cores and four 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A7 cores in October last year. Now, it looks like the company is working on next generation NUCLUN chip that can compete with Samsung’s Exynos 7420.
The NUCLUN 2 Soc has been spotted on benchmarking site GeekBench. It scored a 5392 multi-threaded and a 1796 single-threaded on Geekbench whereas by comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy S6 (Exynos 7420) scored 4970 and 1486. Coming to the specs of the NUCLUN 2, it is rumored that the chipset will be an octa-core one, with four Cortex-A72 one running at 2.1GHz and another four at 1.5GHz, all under the big.LITTLE architecture. The reports also mention that TSMC will collaborate in the development of this new processor, and use its 16nm manufacturing process.
At present, it is not clear if LG’s NUCLUN 2 will be used in an upcoming smartphone from the company that is expected to be the G Pro 3, later this year. It must be noted that the NUCLUN 2 results are not official and can be speculative.
