Sony SmartBand 2 with heart rate tracking goes official

Sony has officially launched SmartBand 2 activity and fitness tracker. The second generation SmartBand from Sony comes with advanced heart rate tracking.

The SmartBand 2 comes equipped with a multi-sensor lifelogger that provides full-scale insights about your fitness and stress levels. The device comes with combination of an accelerometer and optical heart-rate sensor that together measures your pulse as well as mood and stress during the day. Similar to the original SmartBand, the SmartBand 2 can also alert you when you have a call, message, email or tweet through vibration and pulsing LEDs on the strap. The device offers 3 colored LEDs for notifications that can be used for different notifications such as incoming calls or messages. It can even play, pause or skip through music tracks playing through a phone or tablet.

The SmartBand 2 has a removable core that is IP68 certified making it water resistant. It features a battery that recharges in an hour and lasts for full two days. All your health information is sent to the Lifelog smartphone application that is available for Android and iOS.

Sony SmartBand 2 will be compatible with all Android and iOS devices running 4.4 KitKat (or higher) and iOS 8.2 (or higher). It will be available globally from September in four colours: black, white, pink and blue. Price of the device is yet to be revealed.
